Many women suffer from problems such as back and bone pain during their pregnancies, but these are issues that Wealden Osteopaths & Spine Centre are used to helping with.
Changes in posture and an increase in weight are obvious causes of pregnancy-related discomfort, but other changes may be more subtle like the effects of hormonal softening of ligaments and the position of the growing baby. A combination of these factors can put extra strain on the joints and muscles of your spine and pelvis.
Also, it is not fully known why some women develop fragile skeletons when they are pregnant. One theory is that a woman starts off with a low peak bone mass (thin bones) or another bone disease, and normal bone loss in pregnancy causes further bone thinning and causes the broken bones. Bone density is also known to drop while a woman breastfeeds but returns to normal when she stops.
We aim to assist the natural process of pregnancy and birth by aiding the body to adapt and align as the pregnancy progresses.
